Saf graduated from Turner Dental Hospital in Manchester before returning to his home in South Yorkshire to complete his Foundation Dental year at Garden Street Practice in Darfield, under the guidance of Howard Crossley. It was here that his professional journey truly began.
After completing his Foundation year, Saf remained at Garden Street Practice as an associate and later became a partner. With the encouragement and support of Mrs Linda Platts, he took a bold step and founded Darfield Dental Practice – the first of what would become the TSJ Smile Group.
From there, the group grew steadily. Saf expanded into Dearne Valley Dental Practice in Goldthorpe and Worsbrough Dental Practice, giving each surgery his personal touch and assembling dedicated local teams who shared his passion for patient care. The group was later awarded the dental contract for Grimethorpe, which led to the opening of Grimethorpe & Shafton Dental Practice. Soon after, both Darton Dental Practice and Royston Dental Practice joined the group, bringing the total to six well-established practices serving communities across South Yorkshire.
Alongside growing TSJ Smile Group, Saf remained committed to advancing the profession. He contributed to the Yorkshire & Humberside Foundation Dental Programme for more than a decade, played an active role in the Barnsley Local Dental Committee, and led the NVQ Level 3 Dental Nursing programme in Barnsley for many years. Saf also completed a two-year Diploma in Cosmetic Dentistry at University College London, as well as a Diploma in Prosthodontics, expanding his expertise to provide the highest standards of care.
Saf’s vision was always clear: to create dental practices where patients feel welcome, cared for, and confident in their treatment. His work has left a lasting legacy, and today TSJ Smile Group continues to provide exceptional dental care across its six practices, combining modern surgeries, advanced treatments, and a friendly, patient-focused approach.
